What does a $300 million painting look like?

No. It doesn’t look like this. Actually didn’t make it to the Vitra Museum’s “Making Africa” exhibit. That’s next on the list.

Memorial Day (US) and Pfingsten (Europe), also known as “Pentecost,” landed on the same day this year. Honor the day in a way that aligns with your spirit and soul.

A friend and I hopped a train to Basel to visit the Paul Gauguin exhibit at the Beyeler Museum.

The place was packed.

Probably because of this:

“When Will You Marry?”

A Swiss collector sold “When Will You Marry?” earlier this year for $300 million to a group of museums in Qatar.

$300 million.

Yes. I stood way back from it.

If you go, a couple of tips:

  • Do NOT go during the weekend midday. Visit around 9AM or after 3PM.
  • Buy tickets online.
  • Leave your jacket at coatcheck.
  • Wear comfy shoes.
  • Be patient. Grandma has elbows and she’s not afraid to use them.

Yes or no: box-pleat skirts

Box-pleat skirt

(L) MaxMara Weekend Certa pleated skirt, (R) Temperley London Mesh-paneled jacquard skirt

Apparently pleated skirts are in at the moment. Get it right, and you’ll look like you’re ready to board your yacht moored at Monte Carlo. Get it wrong, and you’ll look like you’re ready to report to Sister Mary Killian for detention.

What say ye?

Note: If you’re reading this on your mobile, I know the layout is off. Working on it.
