Out of all the designers who’ve draped starlets during this year’s awards season, one has captivated my heart and made me long for old Hollywood glamour: Zuhair Murad.
I noticed the work of the Lebanon-based designer when model, blogger and – coolest all – John Legend’s wife Chrissy Teigen wore an absolutely stunning off-pink beaded gown from his Spring / Summer 2015 RTW line for the Golden Globes.
There’s not that much personal information about the 44-year-old Murad that I could find, only a Wikipedia entry and the designer’s website. According those sources Murad was born in Baalbek, Lebanon, but moved to Paris to study fashion design. He opened his first atelier in Beirut in 1997 and debuted his haute couture collection in Rome either in 1995 or 1999 (again, depending on the source).
No matter what year he burst onto the scene, Murad has made a name for himself among a slew of models and actresses. Teigen wore him again at the 2015 Oscars, donning gorgeous light-blue beaded gown (Spring 2015 couture) with a decollette down to ‘here’ and a split up to ‘there’:
Katy Perry wore this mid-length, belted sheer dress accented with dripping crystals, also from Murad’s 2015 couture line, with strappy high heels for the 2015 Grammys:
And Kerry Washington wore an elegant – although slightly tame – firey red gown to last year’s NAACP Image Awards:
And for between USD 3,000 and 8,000, you too experience the elegance of Zuhair Murad. His line is available at Mytheresa.com.
